Early in my career I had made steel valve body castings and I was new to the trade. The castings leaked in hydro test. Someone advised me to use this technique of vacuum impregnation. I was elated.

In past lives impregnation was just SOP for anything that needed to be water or air tight, especially for sand castings. I didn’t really want to take this on but lot charges from the for-hire companies were prohibitive at $400.
